A Gentle cleanser
Cleansing your skin every day is essential for your hygiene and to keep any breakout or clogged pores at bay. The cleanser helps remove skin care residue, makeup or any surface oils and dirt. Using this will give you a blank canvas to begin your skin care with. Removing all such impurities from your skin results in better absorption of your skin care products.
When we say “gentle” cleanser, we mean something with a lower pH level. Our skin is naturally more acidic in nature and hence to neutralize it skincare has always been more alkaline. Using products with a high pH level just puts you at a greater risk for damage.
Time to Tone!
Toner was essentially introduced in the market to help reduce the pH level of the skin after cleansing. If you are using a cleanser with a low pH level, you don’t need the toner. If one of your skin concerns is open or visible pores then a toner would help create a difference. You can create a smoother surface for your face with a toner.
As we age, our skin’s natural cell turnover slows down. Dead skin cells aren’t replaced with new ones, rather it just sits on top of the skin.
By introducing an exfoliator to your regime, the dead skin will be removed from your face. There are two kinds of exfoliators in the market—a physical exfoliator and a chemical exfoliator.
With physical exfoliators, you must be very careful to not go overboard. The sugar or beads in the exfoliator can be rough on the skin if you aren’t gentle hence promoting sagging in your skin. Sponges with activated charcoal have entered the market and are considered to be great physical exfoliators for your skin. Moving to chemical exfoliators, they breakdown the bonds between the dead skin cells and the fresh skin cells causing them to detach. Lactic acid and glycolic acid are some of the best for more mature skins.
The skin around the eyes is the most sensitive. It’s also the thinnest skin as there aren’t as many layers there. This is where the first signs of aging begin to show.
This area is prone to dryness as there is no oil secreting glands. Investing in a luxurious and rich eye cream can help restore the moisture. Always remember to pat your eye cream in every night with your ring finger. This finger applies the least pressure while ensuring the product has sunk deep into the skin.
Over time, oil production by the glands in our faces reduce too. This is why we’re so much more susceptible to wrinkles. While the lower sebum production means no acne, it also means “hello wrinkles!” invest in a good moisturizer filled with hyaluronic acid.
Sun damage is one of the main reasons for wrinkles and fine lines—the rays of the sun damage the skin cells and make our complexion sullen. A sunscreen is a must have and it must be applied every single day, even if it’s cloudy! Nothing less than a factor 30 and don’t forget to reapply during the day.
